Keith Kellogg, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday morning, according to the Ukrainian news outlet Suspilne.

Kellogg was met at the train station by U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.

Speaking to journalists upon his arrival, Kellogg said that he “truly [believes] this war would not have started if [Trump] were still president” in 2022. “He understand that people are suffering. He understands the damage that we’re seeing. […] And we want to see it ended,” he added.

Kellogg’s plan to visit Kyiv was reported by Reuters on Tuesday, after U.S. representatives met with Russian negotiators in Saudi Arabia to discuss a potential ceasefire in Ukraine.

Wednesday’s visit is the first Kellogg has made to Ukraine since he was appointed as Washington’s special envoy. According to Suspilne, he is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and military chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
