Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, told CNN on Monday evening that he had already met with some members of U.S. President Donald Trump’s team ahead of planned talks on the war in Ukraine, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
“All I can say is they’re great problem-solvers. And I think President Trump is a great problem-solver,” Dmitriev said.
He told CNN that U.S. representatives had not made any direct promises to their Russian counterparts. “I think the promise is: let’s have dialogue, let’s figure out the best solution for our countries, for other countries, for the global community,” he said.
Dmitriev also denied that Russia intended to use the talks primarily to push for sanctions relief. He argued that working together could benefit both the Russian and American economies.
