Officials in Samara region refuse to publish list of killed and injured in Makiivka attack

Alexey Vdovin, military commissar of the Samara region, announced that the government would not be publishing the list of those who were killed and injured in the New Year’s attack in Makiivka.

63.ru writes that the region’s government posted a video with commentary by Vdovin. In it, he explained the refusal to disclose the names of the victims by the fact that such lists contain personal data and may lead to provocations by foreign intelligence agencies.

“This is a job for foreign intelligence agencies to identify and conduct provocations against the relatives of servicemen, which is strictly forbidden,” explained the military commisar.

According to Vdovin, military registration and enlistment offices inform the families of injured servicemen on their own or upon the request of relatives.

According to the Center for Strategic Communications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the January 1 attack killed 400 Russian soldiers. The Russian Defense Ministry puts that number at 89.

Many of those killed and injured in the attack were from the Samara region. Local activists demanded that the names of servicemen killed in the strike on Makiivka be published. Their petition has collected 49,000 signatures.
