Multiple sources report Sergey Lavrov hospitalized in Bali. Russian Foreign Ministry spox calls claims 'fake news.'

Citing unnamed Indonesian officials, The Associated Press reported Monday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was hospitalized after arriving in Bali for the 2022 G20 Summit.

According to two sources who spoke to the AP, Lavrov was treated for a heart condition in the Sanglah Hospital, Bali’s largest.

Bali Governor I Wayan Koster told Reuters that Lavrov visited the hospital only briefly and is “in good health.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova called the reports “fake news,” writing on Telegram, “Sergey [Lavrov] and I are reading our feeds here in Indonesia and we can’t believe our eyes: it seems he’s been hospitalized. This, of course, is top quality fake news.”

Zakharova also published a video that showed Lavrov himself telling Western journalists to “be more honorable” and “write the truth more often.” Lavrov told Russia state media that he was preparing for the summit in his hotel.
